A businessman and real estate developer paid the Harahan, La., club’s debt of $8.5 million. The pair also paid to maintain the club’s green space after it closed in February 2012, just a day before it was to be auctioned at a Sheriff’s sale.
The Harahan, La., property closed in January and filed for bankruptcy in February, after its debt ballooned to $7.8 million.
The new benefactors say they will put up the cash needed to maintain the now-shuttered, 85-year-old property, and the financing to satisfy creditors and outstanding loans. “How could I sit by and not try to help?” said one of the partners, who has multi-generational ties to the club and area.
