In the absence of any evidence showing that long putters create a competitive advantage, there is “no overriding reason to go down the road [to prohibiting the equipment],” said Tour Commissioner Tim Finchem. The United States Golf Association says it plans to take action on the proposed ban this spring.
Through the contribution, announced at the Golf Industry Show, the manufacturer will become a Trustee of the non-profit youth organization. The donated funds, in part, will be used to create and launch a golf maintenance career-oriented youth development program, in conjunction with the PGA TOUR.
A permanent clubhouse, cart barn and course-adjacent restrooms are still under construction at the Wynne, Ark., courses, and course officials are still debating plans to include additional lodging on the site. Public reception has been positive, and the courses, which are now part of the state’s Natural Golf Trail and rated among Arkansas’ most challenging, are also offering private tours and “night safaris,” so non-golfers can appreciate the beauty of the land and observe its wildlife.

After an audit by Immigration and Customs Enforcement that revealed 13 of 110 workers could not provide legal documents, the private Sacramento, Calif., club said the workers “either chose to leave or were terminated.” The club received no penalties, as the organization could not prove managers had prior knowledge of hiring undocumented workers.
Wildlife officials are investigating a report that a golfer used a golf club to kill a bird at a private course in Winnipeg. The golf course’s general manager confirmed that a dead goose was removed, but stressed that the club did not condone the incident.
The report highlighted four private clubs in the Chicago area that restrict women from stepping foot on the golf course, in the clubhouse and even driving into the parking lot.
The year-long upgrade will provide the Ashburn, Va., club with 18 acres of driving area, 71,000 sq. ft. of teeing space and nearly three acres of short game.
