Billy Casper Golf has partnered with Callaway Golf for the annual event, which gives golfers at 50 BCG-managed courses the opportunity to demo new putters. Golfers who make a 10-foot putt can earn an Odyssey Drain patch, and players who sink a 30-foot putt with an Odyssey putter will win a free round of golf. Putterpalooza runs through July 6.
Ben Bridgers, who has served in both General Manager and Head Golf Professional roles at North Carolina club properties, joins the club with a “fresh perspective.” Other personnel announcements include new General Managers for 1757 Golf Club in Dulles, Va., Berkeley Hills Country Club in Duluth, Va., PGA Village in Port St. Lucie, Fla., and Dorset (Vt.) Field Club.
WindRiver Investments, LLC, owner of the Lenoir City, Tenn., club, selected KemperSports to manage the 18-hole golf course and help create a master development plan. Billy Casper Golf will provide turnkey management of the Canton, Mich., golf club’s 27 holes of golf and clubhouse, with plans to enroll the course in Audubon International’s Certified Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary program.
The Moseley, Va., club will begin construction next spring to complete the 18-hole Nicklaus Design course, which is scheduled to open in spring 2015. Crafted in association with architect Tom Clark, the new holes will meld with the existing nine and the No. 2 signature hole will be re-routed as No. 18.
City officials have expressed anger at the golf course’s conditions, warning Billy Casper Golf that if “dramatic” improvements aren’t seen by August, steps could be taken to end their five-year deal with the management company. A regional director for Billy Casper Golf said improvements are being made, and the company has organized bi-weekly town hall meetings to keep residents informed.
Superintendents have to watch where and how they use the “C” and “F” words—but at the same time be more forceful in dispelling myths and
misconceptions about chemical and fertilizer applications.
Royce Brook Golf Club in Hillsborough, N.J., received the management firm’s “Facility of the Year” honor for all-around achievement in guest service, operations, course conditions and financial returns. Other top honors went to Dan Guinle of Royce Brook for “General Manager of the Year,” and Tom Tokarski of Butler’s Golf Course in Elizabeth Township, Pa., for “Superintendent of the Year.”
Ocean Pines (Md.) G&CC will debut all 18 newly renovated greens this spring after converting to A1 Bentgrass, installing drainage pipes and re-shaping bunker edges. A course renovation at Wilmington (N.C.) Municipal Golf Course will be the property’s first since the Donald Ross course was developed in 1926; a small greens-fee increase might be necessary to cover the cost of the two-year project, officials said.
