Atlanta Takes Over Four Municipal Golf Courses
The city has taken over management of the golf courses with a “skeleton crew” after twice rejecting a $15 million bid from the nonprofit Atlanta Public Golf Conservancy. The management change, which the city has not fully explained, was triggered by the controversial shift of the Bobby Jones Golf Course in October to state ownership, severing the city’s relationship with American Golf Corporation, which managed the golf courses for 30 years.
City Amends Bobby Jones GC Agreement
In June, the Atlanta city council approved a property swap in which it would transfer golf course ownership to the state in exchange for property near the Underground Atlanta shopping and entertainment district. The city will now lease the golf course’s clubhouse from the state for $1 a year for 30 years, and the Bitsy Grant Tennis Center for $1 a year for 50 years.
