GCSAA Announces 2018 Student Grants
The Joseph S. Garske Collegiate Grants, established in honor of the founder of Par Aide, which continues to sponsor the scholarship program, are awarded to children of club superintendents. Nine grants totaling $12,000 are awarded, based on applicants’ community service, leadership, academic performance and a written essay.
Crooked Creek Club to Close Course as Part of $1.3M Makeover
The golf course at the Alpharetta, Ga. property, which is managed as a Billy Casper Signature property, will close from June 1 to late August for a project that will include a conversion of turf from bentgrass to Primo Zoysia, in addition to bunker and irrigation improvements. The club also plans to add a new fleet of golf carts and maintenance equipment and make enhancements to the clubhouse, which will remain open while the golf course is renovated.

Barona Creek GC Equipment Manager Wins Top Technician Award
Blas Huezo of the Lakeside, Calif. club’s staff has been selected as the 2017 recipient of the Most Valuable Technician Award from the Golf Course Superintendents Association of America, after being nominated by Barona Creek’s Superintendent, Sandy Clark, CGCS. Kurt Lading from Indian Hills Country Club and Trent Manning from Ansley Golf Club were also finalists for 2017 recognition.

Team California Wins 2016 PGA Junior League Golf National Championship
The all-star team from Las Positas Golf Course in Livermore, Calif., raced out to an early lead in the tournament, held November 19-21 at Grayhawk Golf Club in Scottsdale, Ariz. This is the second PGA Junior League National Championship title for a team from Las Positas, which also finished second in 2013.
