Man Wins Suit Against Ocean Creek GC After Alligator Attack
In 2009, an alligator ripped off Jim Wiencek’s arm as he reached for a golf ball near a small lagoon at the Fripp Island, S.C., club, so he took the course and homeowners association to court and won. His lawyer said that while property owners typically have “no duty” against wild animal attacks, there was evidence that the course did not do enough to mitigate the threat and inadvertently encouraged the alligator by creating a favorable environment.
