Club Car is giving the Cohutta, Ga., golf course a free, one-year, no obligation test of its Visage Mobile Golf Information System, and staff and players are already impressed with its accuracy. Through the system, players can calculate yardage on tee and approach shots, and staff can chart play, send messages to cars if dangerous weather is approaching, and allow faster F&B service when players place orders.
A member of the Paia, Hawaii club suffered an injury to his upper right arm when he was shot while golfing. Following a chase, the Maui Police took the suspected assailant into custody before taking him to the hospital for injuries. Golfers continued to play as police investigated the crime scene.

A laundry list of improvements will make golfers take notice at the Bloomington, Ill., club. Though the course’s layout hasn’t changed, plenty of updates like asphalt course paths throughout, re-grassed fairways and greens and re-shaped bunkers will welcome eager golfers at the club’s open house on April 26.
The Cornerstone Pub & Kitchen, a popular downtown restaurant, will provide seasonal dining and bar services at the club for one year, with the potential to expand into more. A Cornerstone owner said that the portions and prices of the cuisine will be driven by the demand of the club’s members, with a goal to “up the level of service, up the quality and presentation of the food, and try to turn the restaurant into an income center.”
The city-owned golf course in Mentor, Ohio is recommending an investment in a drainage improvement project that will affect all 19 greens, with a projected cost of $150,700. The golf course, which saw about 40,000 rounds played last year and brought in more than $1 million in operating revenue, opened a new practice center last May, and future goals include building a new clubhouse and maintenance garage.
Briarwood GC in York, Pa., has tried hunting, destroying nests and even plastic coyote statues to deter its pesky Canada geese population, but is still struggling to find a solution. The Pebble Beach (Calif.) GC relies on well-trained steppe eagles and accompanying hunting dogs to let nature run its course in preventing hungry seagulls from disturbing diners.
Two long-time industry leaders, William Schulz, MCM and Richard Bruner, CCM, will be succeeded upon their retirement by Timothy F. Timlen as the new GM of Houston (Texas) Country Club, and by Karen Grannemann, who is currently as serving as COO of the University Club of MSU and will assume Bruner’s position of CEO/GM in 2014.
