LaFayette Hills to Become Private Golf Club

The status of LaFayette Hills Golf & Country Club, Syracuse, N.Y., will come full circle in 2010 when it once again becomes a private club, reports The Post-Standard. Managing member Mike Muraco, who has operated the course since buying it in late 2006, made the decision just after Thanksgiving.

Muraco ran LaFayette as a daily-fee facility in 2007 and 2008 and then introduced a membership drive last year to try to make it private. When the effort fell short of a 300-member goal, LaFayette was designated a semi-private course, with the hope that it could become private in 2010.

New memberships will cost $1,995 and will include all greens fees, golf carts, a locker, use of the range and reciprocals to play at about 30 other courses. Existing members were able to re-up for $997 through Dec. 15 if they brought in three new members.

Muraco will continue to run the banquet facilities and the grill room will be leased out, reports The Standard. The pool was given a clean bill of health last summer and will open this year if the club can attract at least 50 families to obtain pool memberships at a cost of about $500.
