This June, the Golf Course Superintendents Association of America (GCSAA) will join the Executive Women’s Golf Association, LPGA, National Golf Course Owners Association and the PGA of America in sponsoring 2008 American Express Women’s Golf Month, supported by Golf for Women magazine.
This month-long initiative will provide women with the opportunity to learn, re-learn and/or play golf in a female-friendly environment. Participating host golf facilities will again be asked to offer complimentary golf instruction to women 14 and older during the month of June. GCSAA members are being encouraged to participate by offering open-house events, course tours, discussion groups and other activities that share information about the golf course, including environmental stewardship activities.
To sign up a facility, GCSAA members can visit Play Golf America and work with their LPGA or PGA professional, or golf course owner, to register.
A program guide has been developed to assist facilities in organizing a wide-range of activities. The program also offers a variety of communications tips to assist in promoting the facility’s participation.
In the past, this event was scheduled for a week. Extending the promotion to the entire month will give golf facilities more flexibility in offering a variety of activities at their convenience during June. In the previous three years, more than 68,000 women across the country have been introduced or re-introduced to the game of golf during Women’s Golf Week. Spokespeople for the event are LPGA professionals Nancy Lopez and Suzy Whaley.
