“What woman doesn’t love a new pair of shoes?” asks Courtney McDonough, the Merchandising Manager at Wayzata (Minn.) Country Club, who recently organized a shoe sale during the club’s women’s 9- and 18-hole opening brunch. “Our focus was a ‘kick off’ to Spring—putting a little Spring in our step, and starting the 2007 golf season on the right foot.”
In addition to a variety of shoes in different brands and styles beyond what’s normally sold in the pro shop, an Ecco salesman was on hand showing with samples of his Spring line. McDonough takes advantage of the shoe manufacturer’s buyback program, which allows pro shops to return unsold merchandise at the end of the season. “I believe there is an initial 48 pair to qualify for the buyback,” she says. “We sold 36 pairs of shoe that one day. It was a huge success!”
