New Owner Revitalizes Copper Hill Golf Club

After purchasing the East Granby, Conn., property in 2010, PGA professional Paul Banks began the process of conditioning and treating the greens, which were wracked with disease, had poor drainage, and lacked a fertilizer program. Other significant renovations included deepening and treating the pond on hole No. 2, removing large trees in the center of the fourth fairway, and overhauling the restaurant and banquet facility, with more plans on the horizon.

Drumm Farm GC Transitions to Private Facility

After its parent company, Landscapes Unlimited, made the suggestion, the Independence, Mo., club is transitioning into a private club. In the meantime, the club still allows public golf, but “it will be less and less as more members join,” the GM says, noting that the club currently has 120 members with hopes to increase to 200 by the end of 2014.

Crowne Plaza San Marcos Golf Resort Sold to California Investor

The historic Chandler, Ariz., resort was sold out of receivership to an unnamed investment group with details of the sale kept private. The 6,626-acre resort, which opened in 1913 and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places, includes 35,000 sq. ft. of meeting space, an 18-hole golf course, a golf school and six acres of surplus land.

Rolling Oaks GC Well-Conditioned After Rough Weather

Along with standard maintenance, the Medford, N.Y., course had to remove over 250 trees and is still cleaning up debris following Superstorm Sandy last year and a blizzard in February. Though the course has started seeing a steady stream of golfers, the operations manager reports an increase in nine-hole play rather than the standard 18, because golfers can’t afford to spend five hours on the course.

Omaha (Neb.) CC Uses High-Speed Drone to Film Property

The USGA approached a local filmmaker to produce a video to promote the 2013 U.S. Senior Open, which will be held at the club July 8-14. North Sea Films used a high-speed drone with an HD camera attached to capture aerial shots from above the fairways.
