On Florida beaches, colored warning flags alert swimmers to various water conditions. But, at the Beach Club Grill & Bar at the WaterColor Inn in Santa Rosa Beach (one hour east of Pensacola), the flags indicate the daily drink special. The Maritime Weather Warning Drink System (see box at right), developed by the F&B and marketing departments at the resort, “has created a new crop of ‘regulars’ who get a kick out of the originality,” says Beverage Manager Eric Rarus. Guests come back to the Beach Club again and again to find out what special is running. “Naturally, they purchase the drink upon finding out,” Rarus adds.
