| In his soon-to-be released book entitled Around the World in 80 Rounds, comedian David Wood chronicles his 60,000-mile,26-country golf journey, during which he played some of the most extreme golf courses in the world—including the driest course (shown here) in Arica, Chile. |
Without grass, “the maintenance costs have got to be zero,” David Wood tells C&RB about the Los Leones Golf Course in Arica, Chile, where the annual precipitation is approximately 0.03 inches. Woods, an author and former stand-up comedian, set off in 2004 to golf every continent (except Antarctica) en route from Ushuaia, Argentina to Tromso, Norway—home to the world’s southernmost and northernmost courses. On his quest, Wood got lost, stranded, and had bouts of food poisoning and altitude sickness. “It wasn’t exactly a golf weekend at Myrtle Beach,” he says. With such a unique perspective on how golf courses around the world operate, Wood now does public speaking engagements for golf and corporate functions.
