Clubs and resorts have a longstanding history of being more concerned about serving their membership above and beyond any other interests. From focused membership marketing campaigns to special events designed specifically for a members’ preference, properties are truly dedicated to serving their members.
The Country Club of
St. Albans (Mo.)
has marketed not only its own club, but the benefits of its entire region, to
targeted business segments and demographics that may be looking to relocate.
The Carnegie Abbey
Club (Portsmouth, R.I.) put its property on the map through a
one-of-a-kind spectacular, when it had London-based Graff Jewelry bring $30
million in gems (complete with armored security) to its property for a special
charity event, during which members and guests were allowed to drape themselves
in jewels like royalty.
Properties are also reaching out more effectively to all
members by pushing the harder-to-resist-or-ignore kids’ buttons, as evidenced
by the Kidz Klub at Ozaukee CC (Mequon, Wis.), the Just
Kiddin’ newsletter of Isleworth CC (Windermere, Fla.) and the
Kids Club of the Country Club of
Landfall (Wilmington, N.C.)

| The Silverstone 200 Golf Club in Las Vegas is in its third year of competing for the annual Texas Hold'em Club Champion. The competition is for members only on the second Sunday of each month, and is operated by dealers from the Luxor and Palms. The "buy-in" is reasonable, and members get paid win, place and show, plus accrue points for the length they stay in the game, and how they finish. They get bonus points for win, place and show. The front nine finalist in June join the back nine finalists and overall finalists (9 total players)in December to determine the Texas Hold'em Club Champion. Dave Gentry and DeRay Simon are the Texas Hold'em Club champions for 2006 and 2007 respectively. Silverstone 200 has both golfing champions plus Texas Hold'em Club Champions. Members sure get to know each other over a deck of cards and an entry fee. Ladies have always shown up on the top three since the game began.
