Clubs and resorts looking for unique and interesting ways to generate business during slow seasons, add exciting events for members and guests, and inspire camaraderie among staff members will be interested in these unique ideas submitted by industry colleagues:

A “Build a Scarecrow” contest breathed badly needed life for a full two weeks into what’s normally a dead dining-room period at Tippecanoe Lake CC (Leesburg, Ind.). What’s more, staging the entire contest cost the club less than $200.

Victoria (Tex.) Country Club introduced an “Iron Chef Victoria” event that attracted 180 people at $50/head and generated strong, community-wide publicity.

The Chevy Chase (Md.) Club improved training effectiveness, teamwork and already-high quality standards through a lively “Front-of-House vs. Back-of-House” mystery basket culinary competition. The winning dish was honored with a spot on the club’s dinner menu.
