To further draw members and guests to the pool area, many clubs are adding additional activities to the aquatic deck:
Cripple Creek Golf and Country Club: Two years ago, the club put in shuffleboard courts on the pool deck. Then last year, oversized rubber chess boards were added—and proved so popular, oversized checkers were then added as well. These games are proving to be overwhelmingly popular, particularly with younger members. “They add something else out there for members, besides lying on a lounger or being in the pool,” says Brian Trout, the club’s golf pro.
Woodhaven Country Club: To take advantage of a beautiful, yet underused, landscaped area surrounding the pool, the club plans to put in a nine-hole miniature golf course. Rather than designing a gimmicky putt-putt course, each hole will be lined with shrubs and flowers, to maintain the aesthetic appeal of the area while maximizing the space.
“Families are big here, and since we have a par-three course and this is a large family pool, we feel it will be a nice complement to the pool area,” says Chance Maguire, Owner and General Manager. “We will offer it to members at no extra charge, and it will separate us from other clubs in the area.“
