The latest in a string of major renovation projects at the Scottsboro, Ala., resort will wrap up at the end of May. Other recent updates have included replacing the greens on one of its golf courses and making the bait-and-tackle dock handicap-accessible.
The last project in a string of major projects and expansions is almost complete at Goose Pond Colony Resort in Scottsboro, Ala., and officials are looking to the next round, the Huntsville (Ala.)-based WHNT 19 News reported.
“The golf course, we replaced the greens on one of our courses,” General Manager Lyle Sosebee said. The bait and tackle dock is another project recently completed. “We made it handicap accessible and tried to increase people’s availability to the lake,” Sosebee said.
In a few weeks, the colony will add one more completion to its list. “With this marina, that’s another two million that we’ll put in.”
The colony has been working on the marina expansion for months and now it could be done by the end of May, WHNT reported.
“We’re adding 44 slips to our existing marina that we have now, and that’s about a two million dollar project,” Sosebee said. Future phases will bring two more docks to the marina, bringing a total of 140 new slips, WHNT reported.
Resort leaders said these expansions and renovations aid in the efforts to draw visitors to the area, and maintain the resort as a frequent destination, WHNT reported.
With the final stages of the marina in the works and other big projects completed, resort officials say they’re constantly looking to the future. “We have a long-range plan that we take and improve something every step of the way,” Sosebee said. “We’ve got some things that we want to do in the fall.”
Those winter projects are for more expansions to the colony. There are plans for a resort-style hotel at Goose Pond Colony, but they are delayed. City officials are working with developers to continue the progress, WHNT reported.
