The 103-acre Alvaton, Ky., property was donated by the owner to Warren County. Plans for the land have not been determined, but the county considers it a “new avenue of recreation.”
The Warren County Fiscal Court accepted the donation of a 103-acre property in Alvaton, Ky., that was formerly the Trace at Bays Fork Golf Course on November 24, the Bowling Green (Ky.) Daily News reported.
Earlier Monday, the court met with representatives of the property’s owner, Steve Carver, and authorized Warren County Judge-Executive Mike Buchanon to sign off on all legal documents associated with the transfer of the property, the Daily News reported.
“It’s a good opportunity, and we’re not obligated to do anything with this,” Buchanon said. If the property becomes too costly to maintain, “we can always sell it,” he said.
Trace at Bays Fork was built in 1983 and was designed by Bob Baldock, a California golf course architect. Its name was changed to Whispering Meadows for several months in 2010, when new management took over and pursued a local option election to allow alcohol sales at the golf course, the Daily News reported.
However, the election was canceled after the course returned to its previous management team and the name returned to Trace at Bays Fork. The golf course was slated for auction in October 2011, but the auction was later canceled and Carver maintained ownership of it, the Daily News reported.
Though no decisions have been made on how the county will use the property, it has the potential to offer bike and running trails, Buchanon said.
Warren County Parks and Recreation Director Chris Kummer said he’s looked at the property and is prepared to integrate it into the parks system if the county decides to do so, the Daily News reported.
“It could provide a whole new avenue of recreation we haven’t been able to offer before,” Kummer said.
