David Clinton Burris was charged with trespassing after deputies found him on the York, S.C., golf course with a duffel bag, looking for stray golf balls to sell.
Deputies followed fresh tire tracks on Carolina Crossing Golf Course in York, S.C., to find and arrest a trespasser collecting golf balls to sell, the Charlotte (N.C.) Observer reported.
The York County Sheriff’s Office was called to Carolina Crossing golf course one night last week in reference to a “suspicious man” with a moped in the parking lot, according to a police report. The deputy noticed fresh tracks in the dew on the grass of the golf course, and followed the tracks until he saw someone hiding behind trees, the Observer reported.
The suspect, identified as David Clinton Burris, 46, was carrying a duffel bag and told the deputy he was looking for golf balls to sell, the Observer reported.
Burris was arrested and charged with trespassing. Officers also found marijuana in a toboggan under the seat of his moped, so Burris was also cited with possession of marijuana, according to the report.
