Joseph and Paula Ruggiero purchased the private Seekonk, Mass., club in January for $2.5 million, and are planning major interior upgrades, including new carpeting and furniture. Plans to relocate and construct a swimming pool and the tennis courts still require approval by the zoning board.
A developer is planning $2 million in renovations and upgrades to the private, 150-acre Ledgemont Country Club in Seekonk, Mass., the North Attleboro (Mass.) Sun Chronicle reported.
Joseph S. Ruggiero and his wife Paula purchased the property in January for $2.5 million, according to the Northern Bristol County Registry of Deeds. The club is planning major interior upgrades, as well as new pool and tennis facilities, the Sun Chronicle reported.
However, relocation of a swimming pool and tennis courts will require approval by the zoning board, according to zoning enforcement officer William McDonough. A hearing has been scheduled March 10 on the Ruggieros’ appeal of the zoning enforcement officer’s decision, the Sun Chronicle reported.
According to plans submitted by the Ruggieros, alterations would include the construction of a 100-foot by 30-foot outdoor pool, a 60-foot by 60-foot clubhouse and concession building, five tennis courts and a parking area, the Sun Chronicle reported.
Ledgemont was founded in 1924 in Rhode Island, but has existed at its present site since 1949, General Manager Jack Tosone said.
In addition to the proposed construction, the club is investing in extensive interior renovations, including new carpeting and furniture, Tosone said, adding that the new owners’ plans are to maintain Ledgemont as a private country club, and they have retained the existing staff, the Sun Chronicle reported.
The deed for the property requires that Ledgemont remain a private country club under that name for at least 10 years, the Sun Chronicle reported.
