When a member of Medalist Golf Club needed his golf clubs shipped to Boston on a tight schedule, the Hobe Sound, Fla., club had a solution in place.
Clubs are always searching for innovative ways to serve members, but are typically limited to their property boundaries. But when a member of Medalist Golf Club needed his golf clubs shipped to Boston on a tight schedule, the Hobe Sound, Fla., club had a solution in place.
“[The member] got off the course around 4 p.m. and needed to have his clubs in Boston for a 10 a.m. tee time the next morning,” says Buddy Antonopoulos, Head Golf Professional. The solution was Ship Sticks, a door-to-door, white-glove pickup and delivery service that transports golf clubs from a home or club to a hotel, golf course, resort or private residence. The company works directly with golf courses, including Medalist, which was one of the first private clubs to use the service.
“We don’t have access to some of the [courier] hubs and customer-service reps that Ship Sticks does, so we trust them to make sure each shipment arrives,” Antonopoulos says.
Ship Sticks makes quick shipments by working with clubs’ websites, says Aaron Crooks, PGA Professional at Medalist. So when a member recently needed his clubs back at the club the next morning from Colorado, the Medalist staff knew it was doable.
“Ship Sticks integrates its technology into our website, so our staff can manage and track the entire shipping process online,” Crooks says. “All of Ship Sticks’ partner courses are pre-loaded in the online system, so if you’re shipping from golf course to golf course—which is about 50 percent of our shipping—it’s pretty quick.
“The pre-loaded options may seem like a small detail, but since we don’t have to enter each address, we can handle more shipments in a shorter period of time—and then focus on other things,” says Crooks, who adds that Medalist has used the service about 350 times.
The service has become “an important part of delivering on our overall member-satisfaction promise,” says Antonopoulos. “We have members who ship their clubs regularly, and now prefer Ship Sticks over the standard shipping options.”
