In a surprise to the Custer (S.D.) City Council, the golf course has allowed organized archery hunting to take place on its grounds for the past few weeks. The course manager said he has allowed two to three hunters on certain parts of the course per day, in response to the growing deer population.

After a previous “off the wall” development plan for the Eatontown, N.J., club was defeated by the public, Mayor Gerald Tarantolo announced that officials have had multiple talks with a developer who plans to create 450,000-sq. ft. of commercial space and 175 townhome units.
The Westport, Conn., Golf Advisory Committee wants to look into ways to improve play and maintenance of the municipal course, including possibly hiring outside management. Meeting attendees suggested the golf course’s problems stem from an inefficient governing structure to manage the facility, and little investment in the course’s offerings.
The Desert Mountain Club and Golf Club Scottsdale plan to use the land deal for 1,021 acres in the Harquahala Valley, to replace a water farm they bought a decade ago. The new water farm would act as a backup supply for seven courses and transfer 2,910 acre-feet of irrigation water more than 75 miles via the Central Arizona Project canal.
The cost of materials for the project, which could be installed as early as the fall of 2013, will total $85,000. The 9-hole golf course’s website says the current water system was installed in 1982.
A federal judge found that Tim Blixseth, who founded the private Big Sky, Mont., club, was responsible for financial damages to creditors stemming from its bankruptcy in 2008. There is no word yet on whether Blixseth will appeal the ruling in the case, which has gone on for four years.
