Augusta National GC Files Preliminary Renovation Plans

The plans filed with the city of Augusta, Ga., reveal potential renovations to the clubhouse and an addition to the structure. Though many details have yet to be revealed, an Augusta Planning and Development employee said a kitchen area will be demolished and a two-level structure will be built, with the lower level below ground.

Preliminary plans filed with the city of Augusta, Ga., revealed Augusta National Golf Club’s plans to renovate its clubhouse and build an addition to the structure, Bloomberg Businessweek reported.

Bob Austin of the Augusta Planning and Development office said the documents show plans to demolish a portion of the building that includes a kitchen area. The plan also shows that a two-level structure will be built, with the lower level below ground, Businessweek reported.

The site does not include changes to the clubhouse’s main structure, which was built in 1854.  A miniature silver replica of the clubhouse is presented each year to the Masters Tournament champion.

Until a building plan is submitted, the exact size of the planned renovation and addition will not be known. Augusta, Ga.-based Cranston Engineering Group submitted the plan and further details have yet to be revealed, Businessweek reported.
