Positions will again be offered at selected courses for the 2013 golf season, to help educate future course superintendents about turfgrass management and the golf business. The application deadline is March 1, 2013.
Billy Casper Golf (BCG), which owns and operates more than 130 golf courses, country clubs and resorts, has announced that it will again offer a comprehensive agronomy internship program for the 2013 golf season. BCG’s internship program, launched in 2012, is designed to identify and further educate future leaders in turfgrass management. Developed in conjunction with many of the company’s superintendents, the internships mirror the guidelines of BCG’s course standards and agronomic programming.
In 2013, positions will again be offered at select BCG-managed courses nationwide, for applicants who must be currently enrolled in an accredited associate, bachelor or graduate turf-grass management or agronomy degree program, with career aspirations in golf-course maintenance.
Selected interns will complete tasks in 21 key areas of competency in “real world” classrooms. In addition to scientific aspects of the profession, they will be challenged to enhance leadership, management and communication abilities, as well as acquire MBA-like business skills.
“Billy Casper Golf teaches interns the business side of golf course maintenance, to augment the foundation of their university studies,” said Bryan Bielecki, Vice President of Agronomy of BCG. “They benefit from hands-on environments and training under many of the industry’s most talented superintendents.”
Over the years, interns and entry-level turfgrass management professionals have been promoted to leadership positions across BCG’s portfolio in Illinois, Florida, California, Maryland, Virginia and Pennsylvania, among other states.
“The knowledge gained as intern has given me the necessary experience to move forward with a career in agronomy,” says Casey Kelly, an intern in BCG’s class of 2012. “[I thank] Billy Casper Golf for affording me a practical understanding of what it takes to succeed.”
The application deadline for 2013 internships is March 1, 2013. For more information and to download and submit an application, go to www.billycaspergolf.com/agronomyinternship
