The Lake Oconee, Ga., club is celebrating with an expansion of amenities and operations, a new partnership with Affiniti Golf, and a Gala 20th Anniversary Celebration on October 13.
Harbor Club, located on the shores of Lake Oconee, Ga., is celebrating 20 years of family ownership with expansion of its amenities and operations, a new partnership with a respected golf and club management team, and a Gala 20th Anniversary Celebration to be held October 13.
A fall-themed dinner party will kick off the celebration, where the club’s longtime members will be the guests of honor and receive recognition for their contributions over the past 20 years. Funds received from the golf tournament and dinner party will be donated to the St. Mary’s Good Samaritan Hospital Fund.
“We are proud to celebrate twenty years as a debt-free community here at Harbor Club,” said John Matney, the club’s owner and CEO. “As we move into our twentieth year, even through challenging economic times, we continue to work hard, reinvest and build a close-knit community of people.”
Matney discovered the community in 1992 and fell in love with the area. The community started out as 1,000 acres and had less than 15 single-family homes, but now houses 750 dues-paying property owners, with 80% of residents residing at Harbor Club full-time. The community has grown to 1,600 acres on more than nine miles.
The community offers competitively priced homes, homesites and cottages complemented by dining, swimming and tennis facilities, a fitness center, croquet lawn and an award-winning Tom Weiskopf and Jay Morrish-designed golf course.
“We felt comfortable when we bought an additional 600 acres, knowing it would take several years to build upon it,” said Brandon Matney, General Manager. “Even in a challenging economy, we feel so positive about the lake area and the promise of future growth. We are dedicated to strengthening the value of the memberships that our residents here at Harbor Club hold with us.”
The club recently expanded its Stephen Fuller-designed clubhouse and announced a partnership with Affiniti Golf Partners for reciprocal-play privileges for members, expansion in golf instruction and new pro shop merchandise and benefits, as well as additional member events, golf tournaments and parties in the community.
“Our goal since the very beginning has been to build a community of people, not look at establishing a short-term investment,” said John Matney. “It all has been possible through careful planning and a dedication to establishing a unique lifestyle, but most of all through our members. They are our greatest asset, and the reason why our neighborhood here at Harbor Club is so special.”
