A slew of local volunteers allowed the Western Amateur Golf Tournament at the Highland Park, Ill., club to run smoothly. Fifty club members hosted golfers from all over the world.
The Western Amateur Golf Tournament at Exmoor Country Club in Highland Park, Ill., got a little help from its neighbors, Lake Forest-Lake Bluff Patch reported.
Local volunteers aided the tournament’s festivities, with 50 club members hosting a golfer. Larry and Ann Brown are longtime members of Exmoor and they volunteered to host a Taiwanese golfer, Lake Forest-Lake Bluff Patch reported.
“We don’t know which, but one of these golfers is going to be a major player in golf,” Larry said. “It’s impressive to know you’re looking at that.”
Jesus Anaya works as a caddie at Exmoor and said he’d never seen such stiff competition at the course as he saw at the tournament, Lake Forest-Lake Bluff Patch reported.
“Everybody’s on their A-game,” he said. “This is one of the best tours this course has had.”
The 2012 Western Amateur Championship ended August 5, with winner Chris Williams, of Moscow, Idaho defeating final-match opponent Jordan Russell of College Station, Texas.
