C&RB Announces 2012 Design & Renovation Workshop Schedule

One-day seminars will provide inside looks at successful renovation projects at Scioto CC and Maplewood CC, plus a special presentation on Baltusrol GC’s long-range renovation strategy.

Club & Resort Business has announced the 2012 schedule for its acclaimed Design & Renovation Insights seminar series. The one-day workshops, for which attendees can earn CMI Workshop credits from the Club Managers Association of America (CMAA), provide exclusive, inside looks at successful renovation and expansion projects. In 2011, Design & Renovation Insights workshops were held at Charlotte (N.C.) Country Club, Congressional Country Club in Bethesda, Md., and Royal Oaks Country Club in Dallas.

The Design & Renovation Insights seminar series will continue in 2012 with these programs:

• “Restoring Scioto CC from the Inside Out” (Monday, October 1, at Scioto Country Club, Columbus, Ohio)

This D&R Insights program, presented in conjunction with the CMAA Ohio Valley Chapter, will provide full details, including a complete tour, of how Scioto CC planned and executed a full renovation of its 95-year-old clubhouse facility through a $12 million, two-year, two-phase project. The story of how Scioto CC revived its facility to return it to the standards of the club’s rich golf heritage and position it for future needs was featured in C&RB’s February 2012 issue and can also be read online at http://www.clubandresortbusiness.com/2012/02/24/from-the-inside-out/

The Design & Renovation Insights workshop at Scioto CC will be sponsored by Ferry, Hayes & Allen Designers, Inc. of Atlanta and Chapman Coyle Chapman & Associates, Architects of Marietta, Ga.

• “Taking Food & Beverage to a New Level at Maplewood Country Club” (Monday, October 5, at Maplewood Country Club, Maplewood, N.J.)

This D&R Insights program, held in conjunction with the CMAA New Jersey Chapter, will provide an on-site, inside look at how Maplewood CC, in just three months time, transformed 3,000 sq. ft. of a tired lower level of its clubhouse into an exciting new “three for one” dining venue. The story of how the club’s F&B program was turned around through innovative design concepts was featured in C&RB’s July 2011 issue and can also be read online at http://www.clubandresortbusiness.com/2011/07/11/taking-fb-to-a-whole-new-level-at-maplewood-cc/

The D&R Insights workshop at Maplewood CC will also include a special presentation, “Baltusrol Golf Club’s Roadmap for Long-Range Renovation Success.” In this presentation, Kevin Vitale, CCM, General Manager/COO of Baltusrol GC in Springfield, N.J., will provide details on how one of the country’s premier golf clubs, which has hosted 16 national championships and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places, has preserved its heritage while staying in step with present and future needs through careful and consistent implementation of a long-range capital improvement plan. Drawing on his experience from over $40 million in improvements that have been planned and executed at Baltusrol over the past 10 years, Vitale will outline “dos and don’ts” for managing successful renovation projects.

The Design & Renovation Insights workshop at Maplewood CC will be sponsored by Judd Brown Designs of Pawtucket, R.I., and Donnelley Construction and Donnelley Energy Solutions of Wayne, N.J.

Registration for each Design & Renovation Insights workshop is $125. Program details and registration information can be found at www.clubandresortbusiness.com/DRInsights
