Bruce Banks was pronounced dead hours after illegally entering the Girard, Ohio facility with a group of adults.
A 17-year-old drowned at the Logan Swim and Tennis Club in Girard, Ohio after illegally entering the facility after hours with a group of adults, the Youngstown Vindicator reported.
Bruce Banks and several adults entered the facility in the early morning and witnesses said Banks was motionless at the bottom of the pool after everyone jumped in. Liberty Police arrived at 4:23 a.m. and Banks was taken to ValleyCare Northside Medical Center in Youngstown. Banks was pronounced dead a few hours later, the Vindicator reported.
Findings by the coroner showed no signs of alcohol or drugs, or any physical trauma or medical issues.
Individuals who illegally entered the pool will be filed with criminal trespassing charges. Liberty Police Chief Richard J. Tisone said he believed there were as many as seven people at the private club at one point, but only four were present at the time of the drowning, the Vindicator reported.
Kristen Rock, President of the club’s Board, said police told her that Banks climbed a fence surrounding the pool and she saw no signs of forced entry. The club has never had a drowning since its opening in 1967, the Vindicator reported.
“We feel horrible about the tragedy,” Rock said.
