The Director of Grounds for Hawk’s Landing GC in Orlando was also recently honored for environmental leadership.
Marriott Golf has announced that Sean O’Brien, Director of Grounds for Hawk’s Landing Golf Club at the Orlando World Center Marriott in Orlando, Fla., has been named Marriott Golf’s Golf Grounds Manager of the Year.
The award is based on performance excellence for current and previous years in various categories, including maintaining turfgrass conditions, successful large-scale renovation or construction projects, loss-prevention efforts, personnel development, operating within budget, and active pursuit of industry-wide certifications and education.
“We are happy to recognize Sean O’Brien as our Golf Grounds Manager of the Year and recognize his commitment to excellence,” said David Robinson, Senior Director of Golf Grounds, Marriott Golf. “He is truly deserving of this honor, as he is committed to ensuring that Marriott Golf customers enjoy a first-class experience and product every time they visit the course.”
The recognition by Marriott Golf, which manages 61 golf courses at 44 locations in 12 countries, representing more than 1,000 holes of championship golf, is the latest in a string of awards for O’Brien. He was also recently recognized as the Florida Chapter Award winner for Resorts by the Golf Course Superintendents Association of America (GCSAA) and Golf Digest magazine, as part of the Environmental Leaders in Golf Awards (ELGA). The ELGA recognizes golf courses worldwide, along with their staff members, for their commitment to environmental stewardship.
Designed by noted golf course architect Robert Cupp Jr., Hawk’s Landing Golf Club is a scenic blend of native Florida wildlife and tropical vegetation. At just over 6,600 yards, the par 71 layout is considered one of Florida’s premier resort golf experiences.
