Shawnee County CC’s Golf Company Buys Penguin Naming Rights

Great Life Golf & Fitness at the Topeka, Kan., club chooses “Putter” for female penguin at the Topeka Zoo and donates $2,000 for the honor.

For a mere $2,000, Great Life Golf & Fitness at the Shawnee County Country Club got to name one of two penguins at the Topeka Zoo for their five-month stay, the Topeka Capital-Journal reported.

The Topeka, Kan., company named the female penguin “Putter.” The male penguin was named “Chance” by TFI Family Services.

The penguins are part of the zoo’s Penguin Plunge exhibit, running from May through September. The exhibit opened May 10 and features six 2-foot-tall penguins living in a replica of their South African beach habitat.

Great Life purchased the naming rights at the “Ties and Tails Ball” benefit. The company’s owners, Rick and Linda Farrant, have been foster and adoptive parents for the past ten years and selected TFI as the organization to name the penguin’s partner.

The zoo gave the penguins a set of plastic golf clubs and golfing toys to play with, in honor of their names.
