While lighting, furniture and décor define a bar’s style, these behind-the-scenes details can be what gives these spaces the edge they need to truly succeed.
Uninterrupted TV service: The seven televisions at the Falkirk Pub at Falkirk Estate & Country Club (Central Valley, N.Y.) are wired with both DIRECTV and cable. “If you are on a golf course when there is a lightning storm, you will lose your DIRECTV,” explains Matthew Fichera, General Manager and Chief Operating Officer. “We can’t be in the middle of a Masters with the bar packed and then not be able to watch TV. So we have cable installed as well. That way we won’t miss out when a key moment comes on TV.”
Music: Kokomo (Ind.) Country Club’s Club Pub has a high-fidelity sound system with a satellite radio, to provide a wide range of musical styles and options.
Staff: Service is particularly key in a club bar setting. “My must-haves behind the bar are my bartenders,” says Robert Coleman, Director of Food and Beverage Operations at Rio Verde (Ariz.) Country Club. “I have some of the best bartenders, who have been here 12-15 years. They know every member and every member knows them. They know everyone’s names, and everyone’s drinks.”
