With all of the recent improvements in locker-room features, it’s still important to remember the primary purpose of these areas: giving members and guests a place to store their belongings. Taking time to reconsider lockers themselves is a key part of any locker-room renovation process. Here are some of the most important aspects to consider:
Size: Many properties offer a combination of half- and full lockers. Typically, regular golfers will choose a full locker, as the best choice for fitting all of their necessities. Many fitness and social members, though, may choose a half-locker because they have less to store. Similarly, many women’s locker rooms are set up with half-lockers, particularly in clubs where women tend to go home to shower and change after golf, tennis, swimming or fitness activities.
Materials: It is rare to find metal lockers in recently renovated locker rooms. Wood lockers have been, and will continue to be, a staple in updated locker-room designs. Not only do they establish a much more upscale and inviting look, they are also significantly less noisy, which helps to create a better overall mood within the locker room.
Security: Master keys and combination locks are still the standard in locker rooms. However, many clubs have added additional security by including a safe within the locker for members to store their most valuable belongings, such as watches, wallets and jewelry. For further security, other properties only make one key per locker and restrict any type of locker sharing.
