The Golf Course Superintendents Association of America recommends a number of maintenance practices to help superintendents manage their turfgrass in extreme heat and humidity.
They include:
• Raising the height of playing areas, particularly putting greens;
• Alternating daily practices of mowing and rolling putting greens, and even skipping a day if the schedule allows it;
• Forgoing double mowing, topdressing, verticutting or grooming greens;
• Watering to provide adequate soil moisture without over watering;
• Hand watering when feasible;
• Avoiding aerifying with large-diameter tines;
• Using small amounts of fertilizer if it is required;
• Monitoring and adjusting golf car traffic patterns to minimize stress on turf.
