Changes Outlined at Hastings CC Geared to Attract New Business

Four major changes are planned for this fall and next year at the Hastings (Minn.) Country Club. Starting Sept. 1 the club has dramatically cut rates for members, opened its restaurant to the public, offered tee times to the public every day and come up with a new golf-only option, reports the Hastings Star Gazette.

The changes come on the heals of a steady slide in says Office Manager and Membership Director Judy McDowell. On a given year, around 30 members drop out, which is normal. The problem has been finding new members, McDowell said.

For a full-equity single membership, members of the club had been paying $3,600 in dues. That rate for 2011 has been cut to $2,200. A new non-equity (or golf-only) option is available for members between now and the end of 2011 for $1,500. Golfers can also pay $500 down on that membership this fall and begin playing the course as members immediately.

The restaurant and bar also recently became public. “It’s the newest restaurant in town,” Clubhouse Manager and Executive Chef Ryan McGunnigle said to the Gazette. “It’s available to everybody. You do not need to be a member to enjoy our dining services.”

The restaurant is open Tuesday through Sunday for lunch and dinner. On Sundays, the club is open for breakfast as well. “We always hear we are the best restaurant in town,” says McGunnigle. “It was just unfortunate that our doors weren’t open to everybody in town. Now they are.”

McGunnigle, an eight-year employee of the club, also said that the club’s banquet business is still strong, and the catering business continues to grow.
