Officials from Union County, N.J., announced that after a nationwide search, KemperSports has been selected to manage Galloping Hill Golf Course in Kenilworth, N.J., and Ash Brook Golf Course in Scotch Plains, N.J. The Northbrook, Ill.-based management company will oversee clubhouse services and golf course operations, at the pair of historic golf facilities.
Built in 1927 by Willard G. Wilkinson and subsequently remodeled by Stephen Kay, Galloping Hill Golf Course has an 18-hole, 6,503-yard golf course with rolling hills and valleys as it winds through 271 acres of natural terrain. In addition to the 18-hole layout, the golf course is equipped with a 9-hole executive course that provides golfers of all skill levels with the opportunity to learn the game of golf through youth and community outreach programming.
A new $2.3 million driving range and learning center with turf and artificial hitting surfaces is currently under construction at Galloping Hill and is set to open in fall 2009.
Ash Brook Golf Course, which was built by Alfred H. Tull, offers an 18-hole, par-72 golf course as well as a 9-hole “pitch and putt” course. The 7,040-yard layout was built in 1947 and offers spacious, tree-lined fairways and well-manicured greens which make the course enjoyable for golfers of all skill levels.
The multi-year contract represents the final step in the turnaround plan for the golf operations of Union County, according to officials.
