French Lick Resort, located in southern Indiana, is nearing the completion of its recent golf renaissance, with its new Pete Dye golf course is on schedule to be completed this fall. The course is scheduled to open to the public in April 2009.
The course will feature some of the rugged bunkers and fescue areas similar to Dye’s Whistling Straits course, along with large green complexes and narrow fairways. In addition, the first cut of rough will feature a new hybrid grass that will allow the ball to sit up better when cut to a height of one inch, making it easier for amateur players to hit from those areas.
When the Dye course is complete, French Lick Resort will offer 45 holes of championship golf, with three unique designs.
In addition to the Dye course, the resort also features its classic Donald Ross design, which has benefitted from a recently completed $4.6-million restoration that returned the course to Ross’ early vision. The project included restoring greens and bunkers to their original shapes and creating native grass areas that will emulate the Scottish links-style playing condition.
